Preston Barracks, Brighton
£300m of social impact between
2022 and 2032, beautiful too
Built in 1793 as part of the English response to the French Revolution, the Preston Barracks lay derelict for more than 25 years.
Working in partnership with Brighton & Hove City Council, the University of Brighton and U+I, Richard led the team that secured and delivered the largest single regeneration project Brighton has seen in living memory.
The Preston Barracks project has transformed these council-owned former soldier’s accommodation into a northern gateway to the city. The project is retaining the heritage, and is now filled with public art.
Over the next 10 years, the barracks site will create over 1,500 jobs and generate over £300 million for the local economy. And all done without the need for revolution, or a guillotine in sight.
